great white hope Something or someone that is expected to succeed. For example, Mark is the great white hope of the international division. This expression dates from the early 1900s, when heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson, who was black, seemed invincible and the term was used for any white opponent who might defeat him. It gained currency as the title of a Broadway play and later (1970)...

It's just a phone, dude.
I’ve noticed lately that people sure do get their panties in a twist about electronics and technology. As if a phone defines you. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. I have a Palm Pre. Not because I like it better than the iPhone, but because I have a Sprint phone plan. Get over it. I have a PC. And I don’t even know anything about it other than it works. My husband built it....

I hope they were lying.
So every woman at work tells me that babies are contagious. Seriously? Stop that. You know I don’t want a baby. But I do want to hold them. And make owl faces at them. And tickle their chubby tummies while they giggle and drool. Shit.

House update #2
The offer was accepted on the house! We’ll have an inspector go check it out next Tuesday, then FHA will need to appraise it, and then we’ll sign the mortgage papers! We are pumped. I’m a little overwhelmed. But all in all, I feel blessed to be married to my best friend and blessed that we can afford our own home. God has been very good to us this last year.

Bad news and good news.
Bad news is Eron and I missed Big Brother. Please don’t spoil it. Good news is we made an offer on a house. So all in all, we still win.

Truth: Eron and I plan our weeks around Big Brother. House shopping at 5 so we can have dinner ready in time to sit on the couch and watch BB. I’m sorry. I just freaking love the show. And I don’t know why. All I know is you better not disturb me Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday nights at 7. Kthxbye.

Do I stay or do I go?
carlyj: This has been my home for the past 27 years. My family is here, my best friends are here and I have a great job. So why would I want to move away from what I know? Well, that’s exactly it. This is what I know. I want to take a chance on the unknown. I want to get out of my comfort zone. I want to take a risk. Too much of my life has been spent doing the same old things because I’ve been...

My dad really loves twitter
Dad: No Twitter? Did the world end??? Now what am I gonna do?
Me: I guess we'll have to work.
Dad: What? Work without limiting my thoughts to 140 characters? I'm not sure I can.

Twitter's Down
Which means I’m bored. And it also means I’m going to get more texts like this: “No Twitter? Did the world end??? Now what am I going to do?” - Dad

The Cigar Marine
Yesterday, Envision held its 23rd Annual Employee Awards Banquet. It’s a time to come together as a family (a huge family of 400 or so) and celebrate the year. This year, our keynote speaker was an injured Marine. He came home with one eye with nearly no vision, and a glass eye embossed with the Marine emblem. Because of him, we decided to base our celebration around the Heroes Among Us....
